Job Summary

G-S Plastic Optics is growing, and we are adding a B Shift Quality Technician to our Quality Team! This position is responsible for providing support and qualifying in-process production parts for manufacture following existing test protocols and procedures and works closely with production Process Technicians to start-up and maintain a process for producing parts with consistent and acceptable yields. Job Description



  1. Perform dimensional measurements with manual/hand gauges (calipers, micrometers, etc.).

  2. Perform dimensional measurements with computer-controlled gauges (Mitutoyo touch CMM, OGP multisensory CMM, Zeiss profilometer).

  3. Performing optical non-contact inspection using interferometer and optical bench metrology methods.

  4. Perform visual inspection of optical parts per MIL PRF-138OB to identify non-conformance according to documented parameters.

  5. Notify production personnel of inspection results.

  6. Identify and report systematic and preventable non-conformance occurrences to maximize yields.

  7. Perform final inspection requirements both in-process (where applicable) and as a standalone operation.

  8. Reject defective product and document through Discrepant Material Report (DMR) process.

  9. Document inspection results by a hard copy and into MS Access database.

  10. Apply flash coating to sample parts using a vacuum coating chamber.

  11. Work with production to actively and urgently find continuous improvement opportunities by working as a team to suggest machine and process changes.

  12. Fulfill all responsibilities in a manner that is legal, honest, ethical and promotes continuous improvement.

  13. Interact with coworkers in a manner that will promote excellence and world class thinking.


  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent

  2. Minimum 5 years Optical Manufacturing and/or inspection experience

  3. Injection Molding experience

  4. Six sigma and/or lean manufacturing experience

  5. Must be have proven experience operating Optical inspection equipment (interferometer, OGP Smart Scope)

  6. Must be able to utilize mechanical measurement equipment (calipers, CMM, profilometer, etc.)
