The Parent Engagement Advocate plays a key role with parents/caregivers/providers in working to achieve key competency goals, established by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services; goals that support positive outcome-oriented relationships; trust and increased engagement between families, providers and the community.

Qualifications/Education and Experience:
Associates Degree required (60 Credit Hours of college courses) in Human Services, Social Services or related field; requires a minimum of one (1) yr. of direct experience working with families/caregivers, preferably in a not-for profit setting. Experience preferred includes child/family development, case management, or in a related human services capacity.
Must be attentive to details; good organizational skills and have good administrative, analytical, negotiations and problem-solving skills.
Requires demonstrated experience and knowledge of parent engagement strategies designed to foster increased parental/caregiver involvement, self-sufficiency and awareness including; methods used to build positive goal-oriented relationships, promote equity, inclusiveness, and cultural responsiveness, between children, parents/caregivers, and service providers as partners.
Experience planning, coordinating and facilitating informational sessions, presentations, meetings, support groups, and related special events to encourage and support parent engagement/interest.
Experience coordinating educational and training opportunities is strongly preferred; should be able to identify, collect and disseminate relevant announcements, literature, informational materials, and related resources beneficial to consumers/staff.
Work experience and knowledge of related advocacy, public policy, legislative, disparities and equity issues, affecting families is a plus.
Familiarity with Head Start/ECS Program Performance Standards, which outlines specific actions/framework for programs that provide leadership and advocacy opportunities for parents, is a plus.
Requires experience and a knowledge of relationship building, must be able to develop effective working relationships at all levels within the organization, with consumers and the community; must have ability to maintain effective partnerships with human service, support organizations and other sectors of the community, both public and private that are beneficial to consumers; knowledge of the Greater Rochester area helpful; experience
Working in collaborative/team structures is a plus.
Must be proficient in use of all Microsoft Office products including Outlook.
Requires the health and physical capability to work in an office, classroom, residential and/or community settings. Must be able to lift children weighing up to 40 lbs.
